Quality education is the foundation of sustainable development, and therefore of the Sustainable Development Goals. In particular, Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) pertains to quality education. It aims to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.” SDG 4 is made up of 10 targets, target 4. being ‘Build and upgrade education facilities that are child, disability and gender sensitive and provide safe, non-violent, inclusive and effective learning environments for all.’ This target addresses the need for adequate physical infrastructure and safe, inclusive environments that nurture learning for all, Education outcome is influenced by a number of factors, infrastructure being one of them. There is strong evidence that high-quality infrastructure facilitates better instruction, improves student outcomes, and reduces dropout rates, among other benefits. Schools, being the second home, serve a number of purposes in a child's life. A joyful and safe space ensures quality education. Thus, it is essential to design educational infrastructure in such a way as to maximize the accessibility and effectiveness of the education being delivered.
Bhumi, one of India's largest independent youth volunteer non-profit organizations, recognizes the need to develop quality school infrastructure. Bhumi is committed to creating adequate facilities in schools for the children to learn effectively while providing comprehensive educational support for over 25,000 underprivileged children across India to become better citizens of tomorrow. Bhumi, as a platform, enables over 30,000 volunteers in more than 12 cities across India to contribute to causes like education, environment, animals, and community welfare.

School infrastructure plays an important role in students’ learning. Gloomy classrooms & unhygienic washrooms lead to poor attention in class and attendance in school. Bhumi realizes the importance of good school infrastructure in boosting the morale of all stakeholders involved in the school system and also to reduce drop-outs. In tune with this holistic approach to education, its Ignite+ program was conceived to support schools in building better infrastructure. Ignite+ School Improvement Program supports renovation of existing infrastructure and addition of new infrastructure through
Interventions are based on the needs identified for each school.

Towards this end, Bhumi has partnered with Novus Animal Nutrition India Private Limited, a leader in scientifically developing, manufacturing, and commercializing animal health and nutrition solutions for the agriculture industry. They have executed 3 infrastructure development projects in 3 different schools in FY 2020-21.

These projects were conceptualized and executed within a period of 45 days. The projects implemented thus far are a testament to their commitment.
