Fostering Knowledge and Opportunity for Underprivileged Students: The Need of the Hour
Education, in its truest form, is the spark that ignites transformation. It opens doors, bridges gaps, and allows individuals to dream beyond their circumstances. In India, where every corner brims with talent and ambition, the importance of education is not confined to academics. Instead, it’s about building a nation of resilient, inspired individuals who can shape their own destiny. At the center of it all, are initiatives that are not confined to geographical areas, but expand into the lives of those who need it the most. Right from the lanes of Uttar Pradesh to the corridors of Bengal, the right form of education kindles hope. And that hope is worth celebrating. All of it revolves around the powerful notion of ‘Universal Weal Through Trade & Industry’ - highlighting that business (trade) and industry can grow only when the society thrives, as a whole.
Education: Home to endless possibilities
India’s journey in education is nothing short of extraordinary. Over the years, countless young minds have stepped into the world with confidence, fueled by learning. The country has witnessed the rise of grassroots programs, digital tools, and supportive policies that are helping students find their footing in a fast-changing world. Yes, there are challenges, but what defines India’s story is the consistent belief that every child deserves a chance. Right from a metro like Kolkata or a developing city like Hapur, the momentum of progress is undeniable. Students are dreaming bigger than ever before, and when given the right opportunities, they are soaring.
Swami Vivekananda Arunoday Vidyalaya: Transforming education in Hapur
Swami Vivekananda Arunoday Vidyalaya, a school where every child is greeted by teachers who truly care. It is a place where education feels less like an obligation and more like a joyful journey. That’s the environment at Swami Vivekananda Arunoday Vidyalaya (SVAV) in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh.
Established in 2013, this co-educational institution is home to over 200 students (as of 2024), each with their unique dreams. But what truly makes SVAV stand out is its personalised touch: with a 1:11 teacher-student ratio, no child feels left behind. Here, the belief in education is paired with a deep emphasis on nurturing young minds in a way that stays and grows with them. We are talking about a place where Girls’ education takes center stage, with a thoughtful girl-boy ratio of 14:6 in every class. It’s not merely about numbers. Instead, it’s about ensuring girls have equal opportunities to lead, excel, and thrive.
And then there’s the Full-Day Meal Program. Every student enjoys freshly prepared, nutritious meals three times a day, an aspect that has made significant difference in the lives of those who have reaped its benefits. A well-fed child is a curious child, and at SVAV, the carefully planned meals fuel both body and mind. For alumni as well, the story doesn’t end here. Even after graduating, students receive ongoing support to continue their education through higher classes.
Yogakhshema: A scholarship that empowers.
The Yogakhshema Scholarship Program is proof that talent, when supported, can lead to remarkable achievements.
Since 2018, this program has provided a lifeline to students who are eager to learn but face financial hardships. With a monthly scholarship upto INR 4,000, these students can focus on their education without the burden of economic limitations. But this isn’t merely about finances. We are talking about empowerment here - empowerment that shines through. The scholarship covers essential academic needs: textbooks, notebooks, and even internet access for online classes. Additionally, it ensures students can enjoy protein-rich meals to support their physical and mental well-being. Education, after all, is not and should not be confined to the whereabouts of a classroom. In the larger sense, Education stays with you and equips you for life.
And the results speak for themselves. In the 2022-2023 academic year, the third cohort of scholarship recipients achieved incredible milestones. Ten students scored above 90% in their Higher Secondary Exams, with others excelling in the 80% range. These aren’t your ordinary numbers. A look at it, and you witness the stories of perseverance, dedication, and unyielding hope.
Aligning With Global SDGs
These efforts align with global priorities by nurturing dreams and breaking barriers. They focus on quality education (SDG-4), ending poverty (SDG-1), and addressing hunger (SDG-2) through holistic programs. With an emphasis on empowering girls (SDG-5) and reducing inequalities (SDG-10), the goal is simple—open doors of opportunity, foster resilience, and inspire a brighter future for all.
End Note
What makes these stories truly powerful is the ripple effect they create. When a child is educated, it isn’t just their life that changes — it’s the life of their family, their community, and even future generations. The impact extends far beyond classrooms, reaching hearts and homes across India. Swami Vivekananda Arunoday Vidyalaya and the Yogakhshema Scholarship Program are shining examples of what can be achieved when education is treated as a priority and a privilege. On World Education Day, let's remind ourselves that every child, no matter where they come from, holds the potential to achieve greatness. As we look toward the future, it’s initiatives like these that fill us with hope. They remind us that with the right support, every child can rise above their circumstances and create a life they’re proud of.
