A Koshish for Better Tomorrow, A Koshish for Sustainable Growth

While we all are aware of the effects of global warming and other environmental problems surrounding us, there aren’t many organisations moving towards solving the same. One of such lesser found teams is the team of Koshish India. They are a team of young and dynamic professionals with a cumulative experience of 10+ years.

Koshish India is indeed a step towards sustainability. It has taken up various projects to make an impact on the global environmental conditions and make our lives more environmentally friendly. Their projects range from water conservation to sustainable energy resources, sustainable agriculture, and even natural cleaning solutions.

It has been predicted in our ancient literature that there would be a day in the future when people would be willing to kill each other for an ounce of water. While it is true that 70% of our earth is water, only 2.5% of it is consumable water. India’s total water resources potential on average during a year is 869BCM–natural runoff in rivers. Of which only 1121BCM (60%) can be put to beneficial use and only 690BCM (37%) Is utilizable–being surface water resources. Yet, in our daily lives, we waste water the most. There are a few things that are unavoidable, but the others can be avoided. Each of them is an opportunity to conserve water for future generations and create a world where it won’t come to wars for consumable water.

Koshish India has identified one such area and has come up with an innovative water observation solution. Oler Trap Flush Free Urinal Kit is a product of today for a better tomorrow. Considering a regular common toilet, be it in complexes, offices, or even public washrooms, a minimum of 100 people use it in a day. Assuming 4 times usage per person where a single flush uses 1 litre of water, it is at least 400 litres of water per toilet saved with this solution.  On average, 8300 litres of potable water is consumed in a month by conventional urinals. Besides, lack of disciplined use of water adds to sanitation problems. The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation recently stated that 89 percent (107crore) of the Indian population has access to toilets. Considering that an average individual uses the toilet seven times a day, we’re flushing out a whopping 118 Cr. liters of water daily.

The main purpose of flushing in urinals is to remove the odour and dilute the urine for its smooth removal into the sewer. Since urine is mostly water, it does not require any extra water for removal and Oler Trap Flush Free Urinal Kit uses mechanical means that remove the odour without any extra water. Thus, conserving the same. The urine does not contain any harmful microorganisms, if not for the water used in urinals. Hence, hygiene is maintained by just blocking the way of foul gases that emerges from the urinal holes and thereby eliminating the odour concerns. The best part about these waterless urinals is that they can be retrofitted into the existing urinals. Thus, incurring minimum installation costs.

Oler Trap Flush Free Urinal Kit has many benefits. It saves water, energy used to refill water every time, and also maintenance costs with the waterless urinal kits. These pros make it environment friendly. Moreover, in order to encourage such solutions, any building that uses waterless urinals can be awarded “Green Building” credits under the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program of the USGBC.

This extraordinary initiative has already begun in most of the northern states, Delhi NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana & Rajasthan. By far, Koshish India has already completed about 450+ installations and helped save a minimum of 1.3 lakh litres of water per urinal. They have the vision to expand it at a Pan India level and tie up with corporate and NGOs to help take this further a notch.

Koshish India has also introduced natural cleaners as a part of the Green Home initiative. These cleaning solutions can be deployed for cleaning glass, floors, or even cars. Additionally, these are chemical-free cleaners and safe to use around children as well.

This is not all. They also have a Green Energy initiative in place for conventional and portable bioenergy and bio-CNG plants. These plants use vegetation, food waste, and poultry waste to make up sustainable sources of energy. These plants are functional in the areas of Rishikesh, Bhopal, Orissa, and Tata Estate in Assam. They are also designing models and providing training to farmers to take a step further in the direction of sustainable agriculture, a way of farming that helps preserve the integrity of the soil as well as make profits from limited available resources.

The Koshish India team is working towards building better, healthier, and safer solutions for sustainable development and employing those solutions in our surrounding environment. They are geared up to spread these solutions far and wide to maximise the benefits and join hands with various organisations to make that possible.
