Malabar Gold & Diamonds CSR Drive Builds Global Footprint of Social Good

Across the world, millions of people continue to face challenges related to hunger, limited access to education, inadequate healthcare, poverty, and social exclusion. While governments and non-profit organisations play a critical role in addressing these issues, the scale of these challenges requires active participation from the private sector.

Many communities, particularly vulnerable women, children, senior citizens, and low-income families, continue to lack access to opportunities and essential services that can improve their quality of life and create pathways to long-term development.

To address these challenges, Malabar Gold & Diamonds, through the Malabar Group and its CSR arm, has developed a wide-ranging social impact framework centred on the philosophy of collective growth.

By investing in initiatives focused on hunger alleviation, education, healthcare, elderly care, environmental sustainability, and community development, the organisation has created a CSR model that extends beyond regulatory compliance and seeks to deliver measurable and long-term impact.

Operating across India and expanding into Africa, the group's initiatives are helping improve lives while demonstrating how business growth can be aligned with social progress.

Advancing Inclusive Growth Through a Structured CSR Ecosystem

Malabar Group has embedded social responsibility into its business strategy through a long-term commitment to community development. Guided by the principle that business success should contribute to societal progress, the group voluntarily allocates 5% of its profits towards CSR and ESG initiatives, significantly exceeding the statutory CSR requirement in India.

Over the years, this commitment has evolved into a structured ecosystem of programmes designed to address multiple social challenges simultaneously. By December 2025, the organisation had invested more than ₹370 crore in CSR and ESG initiatives, positively impacting over 1.8 million lives across 20 Indian states and two Union Territories. To further expand its outreach, the group earmarked an additional ₹150 crore for FY 2025-26.

The implementation model combines central planning with local execution. More than 1,500 project locations are supported through a network of over 25,000 volunteers and the company's extensive showroom footprint. This approach enables programmes to reach communities at the grassroots level while maintaining consistency and accountability.

Women remain a central focus across multiple interventions, reflecting the organisation's commitment to gender inclusion, social equity, and community resilience. By integrating social initiatives into its operational network, the company has created a scalable model capable of delivering impact across diverse geographies.

Tackling Hunger, Improving Healthcare, and Supporting Vulnerable Communities

One of Malabar's most significant initiatives is the Hunger-Free World programme, which addresses food insecurity among vulnerable populations. The programme provides approximately 105,000 nutritious meals every day to children, elderly individuals, migrant workers, and low-income families across 116 locations in 19 Indian states.

Since its inception, the initiative has distributed more than 3.90 crore meals, helping address one of the most immediate challenges faced by underserved communities. The programme emphasises not only food distribution but also nutritional quality, hygiene, and dignity. Meals are prepared in modern kitchens and distributed through trusted local partners to ensure efficient delivery and consistent quality.

The impact of the programme has expanded beyond India. In 2024, Malabar extended the Hunger-Free World initiative to Zambia through a partnership with the country's Ministry of Education.

More than 10,000 schoolchildren now receive nutritious meals daily in government schools, supporting both child nutrition and educational outcomes. The programme further expanded to Ethiopia in 2025, strengthening the group's efforts to combat hunger and malnutrition across international markets.

Healthcare remains another major pillar of the organisation's CSR strategy. Through Street Medical Intervention programmes operating across multiple cities, healthcare services are delivered directly to street dwellers and underserved populations. Affordable access to medicines is supported through 29 Malabar-Thanal Pharmacies, while mobile medical clinics have conducted more than 4,000 medical camps benefiting over five lakh individuals.

The organisation has also strengthened its healthcare interventions through collaborations with global institutions. The Nurturing Beginnings initiative, launched in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) India, focuses on maternal and child nutrition and development.

The programme aims to improve health outcomes for mothers and children from disadvantaged communities while supporting early childhood development, an area critical to long-term social and economic wellbeing.

Together, these initiatives demonstrate a comprehensive approach to addressing fundamental healthcare and nutrition challenges among vulnerable populations.

Expanding Educational Opportunities and Promoting Dignity Across Communities

Education has been one of the most enduring pillars of Malabar Group's social development efforts. Recognising education as a key driver of social mobility, the organisation has invested heavily in programmes that support learning opportunities for children and young people, particularly girls.

The National Scholarship for Girl Students programme, launched in 2007, has emerged as one of India's largest CSR-funded scholarship initiatives dedicated exclusively to girls' education. By FY 2025, the programme had awarded more than 1.15 lakh scholarships across 18 states and 284 districts. In a single year, the organisation awarded 33,000 scholarships, helping expand access to higher education for deserving students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

The scholarship programme is complemented by an extensive network of Micro Learning Centres established across 19 states. These centres provide foundational literacy, numeracy, and bridge education for out-of-school children who may otherwise be excluded from formal education systems.

To date, more than 39,000 children have been successfully reintegrated into mainstream education, while over 64,000 students are currently enrolled in these learning centres.

Beyond education, the organisation has also focused on improving the lives of elderly individuals facing neglect, homelessness, or social isolation. Through its Grandma Homes initiative, shelter, healthcare, emotional support, and rehabilitation services are provided to destitute elderly women. Facilities located in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Nedumbassery, and Thrissur have supported more than 510 women, while rehabilitation and family reintegration efforts have helped many residents reconnect with their communities and families.

The group's commitment to community development also extends to housing support, disaster rehabilitation, and environmental sustainability. Through initiatives such as the UYIRP Project in Wayanad, disaster-affected youth receive educational support and placement assistance, helping them rebuild their lives after crisis situations.

Environmental programmes including tree plantation drives, responsible sourcing practices, and waste management initiatives further contribute to long-term sustainability goals.

These diverse interventions reflect a holistic approach to social development, addressing not only immediate needs but also the structural barriers that limit opportunities for vulnerable communities.

Impact Created

Malabar Group's CSR initiatives have created a broad and measurable impact across multiple dimensions of social development. Through investments exceeding ₹370 crore, the organisation has positively influenced more than 1.8 million lives across India while extending its social impact footprint into Africa.

The Hunger-Free World programme has helped address food insecurity on a large scale through the distribution of more than 3.90 crore meals and daily nutritional support for thousands of beneficiaries.

Educational interventions have expanded access to learning opportunities for girls and out-of-school children, supporting both academic progression and long-term empowerment.

Healthcare programmes have improved access to medical services and affordable medicines for underserved populations, while initiatives focused on maternal and child wellbeing have strengthened preventive healthcare efforts. Elderly care programmes have restored dignity and support for vulnerable senior citizens, while disaster recovery and livelihood-focused initiatives have helped communities rebuild and recover.

Perhaps most significantly, the organisation has demonstrated that CSR can be integrated into core business operations and scaled across regions without losing local relevance. By leveraging its operational footprint, volunteer network, and strategic partnerships, Malabar has created a model that combines scale, sustainability, and community-centred impact.

Way Forward

As social challenges continue to evolve, the need for sustainable, scalable, and community-focused development initiatives will become increasingly important. Malabar Group's approach demonstrates how businesses can play a meaningful role in addressing complex issues such as hunger, educational inequality, healthcare access, and social exclusion.

The organisation's continued investment in CSR and ESG initiatives, combined with its expansion into new geographies, positions it to deepen its impact in the years ahead. Future efforts are expected to strengthen existing programmes while exploring new opportunities to support vulnerable communities through partnerships, innovation, and locally relevant interventions.

By maintaining a long-term commitment to collective growth and responsible business practices, Malabar Group continues to demonstrate how corporate resources, operational capabilities, and social purpose can work together to create lasting change.

Its journey offers an example of how businesses can contribute to inclusive development while building stronger and more resilient communities across regions and generations.
