Yashoda Medicity Launches Dedicated Thalassemia Care Centre
In a significant step towards strengthening specialised care for patients with thalassemia, an inherited blood disorder, Yashoda Medicity has launched a dedicated Thalassemia Care Centre to provide structured, multidisciplinary, and lifelong care for patients and their families. The initiative was inaugurated by Shri Sunil Kumar Sharma Ji, Hon’ble Minister for IT and Electronics, Government of Uttar Pradesh, as the Chief Guest, marking a key milestone in advancing specialised haematology services in the region.
The centre is among the best integrated facilities in the region designed exclusively to address the complex clinical and long-term needs of thalassemia patients and their families under one roof. Thalassemia remains one of India’s most common inherited blood disorders, requiring patients to undergo regular blood transfusions and continuous medical management throughout their lives. Despite its growing clinical burden, many families continue to face challenges such as delayed diagnosis, fragmented treatment pathways, and limited access to structured long-term care and counselling support.
To address these gaps, Yashoda Medicity has developed a Thalassemia Care Centre that brings together specialised haematology services, daycare transfusion facilities, iron chelation therapy and monitoring, advanced diagnostics, bone marrow transplant evaluation, genetic counselling, nutritional and psychological support, infection prevention, and structured long-term follow-up care under one coordinated framework.
Importantly, the initiative also emphasises preventive healthcare and prenatal awareness, highlighting carrier screening, pre-marital counselling, and antenatal testing to reduce the burden of thalassemia. By enabling early carrier detection and informed reproductive choices, it aims to strengthen prevention and reduce future incidence of inherited blood disorders. A Thalassemia Masterclass, along with a dedicated blood donation drive, was also organised as part of the launch initiative, reinforcing the importance of voluntary and regular blood donation in ensuring uninterrupted transfusion support for patients dependent on lifelong care. Dr. P.N. Arora, Chairman and Managing Director, Yashoda Group of Hospitals, said, “Thalassemia is a lifelong condition requiring continuous transfusion support, emotional resilience, and structured care. Through this dedicated centre at Yashoda Medicity, our aim is to provide integrated and compassionate care that improves both survival and quality of life for patients. We are also committed to strengthening awareness around prenatal screening, genetic counselling, and early diagnosis, so that families can make timely and informed healthcare decisions.” Dr. Nivedita Dhingra, Director & Head, Hematology, Hemato-Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant, said: “With advances in transfusion protocols, iron management, infection control, and bone marrow transplant outcomes, patients with thalassemia can now achieve significantly better quality of life. This centre integrates all essential services like specialised haematology services, daycare transfusion facilities, iron chelation therapy and monitoring, advanced diagnostics, and more under one roof, ensuring seamless, coordinated, and outcome-focused care.” The launch reinforces Yashoda Medicity’s commitment to advancing specialised, accessible, patient-centric healthcare and addressing key gaps in treatment and prevention of inherited blood disorders in the region.
