HCLTech Advances Sustainability, Sets Benchmarks in Employee Wellbeing and Water Use

HCLTech, a leading global technology company, reported significant progress in FY26 against its sustainability goals and commitment to becoming net zero by 2040.

The company has achieved a 55.84% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions from its FY20 baseline, surpassing its target of a 50% reduction by 2030 four years ahead of schedule. It has also reduced its total emissions footprint (Scope 1, 2 and 3) by 27.7% since FY20. Driving this progress is HCLTech's accelerating shift toward clean energy. Since FY20, the company has reduced energy consumption from conventional sources by 31%. Renewable energy now accounts for 49.79% of HCLTech’s total energy consumption and 89.65% of energy used in its data centers, reflecting sustained decarbonization efforts across the company’s operations and value chain.

HCLTech has also strengthened its leadership in resource stewardship. The company replenishes 51 times more water than it consumes across its global operations and has achieved an industry-leading water consumption rate of 10.68 liters per capita per day. Reinforcing its commitment to circularity and sustainable workplaces, all HCLTech campuses in India have maintained Zero Waste to Landfill Platinum certification since 2025. All HCLTech campuses have also achieved Platinum or LEED Platinum certification from leading Green Building Councils.

“Sustainability is becoming a catalyst for innovation and long-term growth. By combining technology, AI and human ingenuity, we are reducing our emission footprint while helping clients build more resilient and sustainable businesses. As AI reshapes industries, we remain committed to deploying it responsibly, ensuring that innovation advances not only business outcomes but also environmental stewardship and societal progress,” said Vipul Arora, Global Head of Sustainability at HCLTech.

HCLTech invested 2.08% of revenue in employee well-being in FY26, the highest in the IT industry. Women represented over 50% of the Board and 29.6% of the workforce. More than 90% of employees in nearshore facilities were hired locally, with women comprising 66% of that workforce. The number of employees with disabilities increased by 27.4%.

HCLTech continued to invest heavily in community initiatives through HCLFoundation. The company increased the outlay of the HCLTech Grant in India by 45% in FY26. It has disbursed $3 million in grants to non-profit organizations in the Americas in the past three years for innovative climate action projects. HCLFoundation’s interventions have impacted over 8.4 million lives in India to date, of which 54% are women. It has planted over 3.5 million saplings, greened 74,000 acres of land and harvested more than 155 billion liters of water to date.

HCLTech’s sustainability efforts continue to earn global recognitions, with the company featuring in TIME World's Best Companies and World's Most Sustainable Companies lists for the second consecutive year, Fortune World's Most Admired Companies 2026, Forbes World's Best Employers for the sixth consecutive year, S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook. It also achieved EcoVadis Gold rating and MSCI AA (Leader) ESG rating for the second consecutive year in FY26.
