Lava Empowers Women from Underserved Communities with New Opportunities in Manufacturing

As part of its commitment to building a more inclusive manufacturing ecosystem, Lava International Limited, the leading homegrown smartphone manufacturer, today announced its efforts in creating pathways for women from underprivileged backgrounds to enter mainstream electronics manufacturing.

The company’s initiative focuses on enabling 150+ young women from modest socio-economic backgrounds, many of whom are first-generation industrial workers, to build stable careers in smartphone manufacturing through skill development, structured employment opportunities and a safe workplace environment. This effort culminated in the launch of a dedicated women assembly line, designed to encourage greater participation of women in core manufacturing roles in Lava’s plant at Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

Women are employed across functions at Lava’s manufacturing facility including assembly, packaging, quality control, HR, design quality, industrial engineering (IE), production planning and control (PPC), new product introduction (NPI), production engineering (PE) and plant support functions.

Sharing his vision for the initiative, Sanjeev Agarwal, Executive Director and Chief Manufacturing Officer, Lava International Limited, said, “At Lava, we believe that building a strong manufacturing ecosystem must go hand in hand with creating inclusive opportunities. Our focus has been on enabling youth from modest backgrounds to build meaningful careers in electronics manufacturing by providing the right skills, safe workplaces and equal opportunities. Bridging the gender gap with pay parity, strong safety measures and supportive workplace policies, are aligned to a sustainable growth project. As we scale our manufacturing operations, we will continue to double down on expanding women’s participation across our assembly lines and production ecosystem.”

The initiative is part of Lava’s Sustainable and inclusive growth model that aims to expand roles and participation in mainstream manufacturing for youth of India. By enabling opportunities in electronics manufacturing sector, the company aims to enable long-term financial independence and skill development for women from smaller towns and economically modest backgrounds.

As India continues to strengthen its position as a global electronics manufacturing hub, Lava’s women assembly line initiative reflects on sustainable growth with inclusive hiring practices aimed at building a stronger ecosystem in the Indian manufacturing landscape.
