Sumeet Facilities Removes 86 Tonnes of Waste from Juhu Beach in Six-Hour Clean-Up Drive

Sumeet Facilities, part of Sumeet Group Enterprises, removed approximately 86 tonnes of waste from Juhu Beach during a six-hour clean-up drive, deploying 220 personnel along with local volunteers as part of its CSR initiative.

The large-scale operation was undertaken to support Mumbai’s efforts to address the substantial volume of waste washed ashore during the monsoon. Sumeet Facilities deployed manpower and mechanised equipment, including cleaning machines and tractors, to accelerate waste removal and shoreline cleaning.

The operation was reviewed by Shri Siddhesh Ramdas Kadam, Chairman, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), who visited Juhu Beach and assessed the manpower and equipment deployed for the clean-up operation.

“As citizens, we must ask ourselves what we are doing for the environment. The waste we see on the beach often comes from products we use and dispose of irresponsibly. During the monsoon, the volume of waste reaching Mumbai’s beaches is extremely high, making additional manpower and a dedicated strategy necessary. We need a collective movement involving citizens, authorities and responsible organisations to keep Mumbai’s beaches clean,” said Shri Siddhesh Kadam.

Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Summit Salunke, Executive Chairman, Sumeet Group Enterprises, said, For us, corporate responsibility is ultimately about being willing to contribute when our capabilities can make a meaningful difference.

Mumbai's coastline is an invaluable part of the city's environmental and civic heritage. The accumulation of nearly 86 tonnes of waste at Juhu Beach demonstrates the magnitude of the challenge our city faces during the monsoon. I am proud that 220 members of our team came together, supported by mechanised resources and volunteers, to contribute to this effort.

I sincerely thank Shri Siddhesh Ramdas Kadam ji, Chairman of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, for his leadership and encouragement towards this initiative. His emphasis on bringing government, citizens and responsible organisations together is important because environmental challenges of this scale cannot be addressed by any one institution alone.

At Sumeet Group Enterprises, we believe that the responsibility of an enterprise extends beyond the boundaries of its business. Organisations must remain conscious of the communities and environments within which they operate and, wherever possible, put their people, resources and capabilities to work for the larger public good.

Our commitment is simple to contribute meaningfully towards cleaner cities, stronger communities and a more sustainable future.”

The six-hour drive resulted in the removal of approximately 86 tonnes of waste from the beach, highlighting the scale of marine waste that accumulates along Mumbai’s coastline during the monsoon and the manpower and resources required to address it.

Although Juhu does not fall within Sumeet Facilities’ regular operational purview, the company deployed its resources to support the city’s clean-up efforts. The initiative builds on Sumeet Facilities’ longstanding business relationship with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and reflects its commitment to supporting cleaner public spaces in Mumbai.

The initiative highlights the importance of sustained and coordinated action involving civic authorities, private organisations and citizens to address marine waste and maintain Mumbai’s coastline. Through its CSR efforts, Sumeet Facilities remains committed to contributing to environmental responsibility and cleaner public spaces.
