From 2017 onwards, Procter & Gamble’s (P&G) CSR initiative Shiksha partnered with Educational Initiatives (Ei) to create the P&G Shiksha Mindspark programme. The Shiksha initiative is enabling the roll-out of Mindspark in government schools in several Indian states with the goal of improving the learning outcomes directly and demonstrating a model for effective edtech in govt schools- that is replicable, scalable and most importantly effective. The project was initially launched in 30 schools in the state of Rajasthan and reached 6,700 students. This was a visionary step at the time. Over the past 5 years, we have scaled operations to reach 71K+ students across 5 priority Indian states in India: Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Besides English, Mindspark content is available in 9 Indian languages. As part of the programme, students have access to educational content that is aligned with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) and state boards in Math, ESL, and one vernacular language. In March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in-school implementation was no longer possible. To confront this crisis, Ei and P&G Shiksha pivoted their model of implementation. Since students could no longer use Mindspark in schools, the software was made accessible to them at home via smartphones, computers, or similar digital devices. Field teams also set up community labs to help students without a smartphone access content on Mindspark. Following the pandemic, our field teams are implementing Mindspark both at home and in schools as part of the programme. The Mindspark at Home programme serves over 34,000 students in Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
