Project Description

CIIT has a unique partnership model with the health system of the country, working in coordination with the states National Health Mission along with the active participation of Rashtriya Bal Swastya Karyakram (RBSK) screening team. The models include various levels of interventions mentioned below:

Early identification and treatment:

Screening of children for deformities by ASHA and Anganwadi workers and if identified with clubfoot are referred to CIIT.

Treatment:

Health care professionals in public hospitals are trained to provide ‘Ponseti Method’ of Clubfoot treatment to children who are identified by the public health community volunteers and CIIT outreach and awareness activities. Clinic spaces are provided where children are given casting, parents are provided with counselling support, and data is maintained through medical records and braces that are stored safely

Training and Capacity Building:

Training to counsellors and state program coordinators for effective maintenance. Providing counselling and guidance to the parents along the process of treatment and maintaining records of every enrolled child to monitor follow-ups for better effectiveness.

Community sensitisation:

  • Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA): ASHAs are responsible for health care of children under the age group of 0-6 weeks. The information of prevelance of clubfoot and availability of free clubfoot treatmen in the Asha training manual. CIIT team leads the ASHA training at the district and block levels, gives the ASHA's informations
  • Anganwadi: CIIT’s team work closely with District Program Coordinators ,Anganwadi, Women and Children for outsourcing community awareness. This also helps in ensuring that every child born with clubfoot has access to timely treatment.
  • Rashtriya Bal Swastya Karyakram (RBSK): RBSK team at the state and district level share the list of children identified and CIIT team follow-ups with each of them to make sure that they start treatment of clubfoot.

Follow – Up:

Follow Up is an important element in the treatment of clubfoot. After the completion of initial treatment procedure of the child, he/she is required to visit clinic for the next 5years.This is to make sure that the feet of the child are completely treated and no relapse cases occur. Home visit is also an element under the follow –up considering the families visit from far off places. This helps the child to maintain the correction of foot and also helps in reducing the drop-out rates.

Reporting:

  • Government liaison and reporting is done on a regular basis in the government hospitals. Record keeping of registered patients and those visiting the hospitals is an ongoing exercise at the clinics which then feeds into the state and national data. Formal reporting and documentation for donors is done in the state level. Human Resource management is the prime responsibility of the National level administration.
  • Financial reporting is the responsibility of the centralised monitoring team. FAB production and logistics are led by the national Team. State level programmes are in turn managed by the national team which is also responsible for all communications and also programme trainings.
  • CIIT provides quarterly report s detailing the number of children enrolled and served as well as funds spent vs budget.
