Samerth is working with the arid region of the Rapar block of Kutch to address the issue of water security. The operational area of Samerth includes 97 GPs of Rapar block where gradually Samerth has expanded its coverage- starting from 20 GPs in 2007 to 2012 and extending into another 37 GPs and since 2015 focusing on the entire block. To create a sound database and understanding, Samerth has developed Water Security Plans (WSPs) of all the 97 GPs. Samerth believes that water security is a combination of access to safe water, availability of more than 2-3 sources that can suffice the needs of drinking water for the entire 12 months, with communities through the understanding of recharge mechanism of the source, catchment,   groundwater, conservation techniques and hydrogeological understanding that creates holistic knowledge keeping in mind the fast depleting water resources, salinity ingress, changing pattern of rainfall and climate change. Samerth is working keeping in mind the broader definition of water security with the key objective of promoting water safety, quality and security. 

Samerth has prepared ‘Water Security Plans’ for the 97 villages. The information of these villages also reveals that in the 20 villages where Samerth is working since the last seven years the situation is improved in the area of reduction in migration and the process of making job cards on a very positive note. A total of 79% of job cards of total families of 20 villages are completed and only 13% of the total families are migrating to get their livelihood due to adverse climatic conditions. 

• To reduce distress migration by 30-40% of the marginalised communities by constructing water structures for water bassed assets and irrigation facilities for 355 farmers for 2 crops and creating water security in 31 Gram Panchayats.
• By reviewing the water bodies the families can take up to 2-3 crops and out of this 1 crop can be  cash crop that will help in raising income to support their families food needs.
• Samerths work shall ensure the families don't have to migrate and result in a reduction in number/ percentage of distres migration
• Samerth will work in  schools and Anganwadi with 1000 adolescent girls, young women and community worker on hygiene/menstrual hygiene management.
• With the formation of 31 women groups the women in the village will monitor the water bodies, maintain the infrastructure and also participate in various awareness drives.
• The women from 3736 households will be able to commute easily.
• Samerth provides water wheels to carry water  from wells and ponds to their households. 
• The availability of water will irigate 1608 acres of land and benefit 355 farmers. The irrigation facility will help them take on cash crops in winter and thus reduce distress migration.
