WTI is working towards reinstating the dwindling population of the wild buffalo in central India. Once a stronghold of the species, the central Indian population of the wild buffalo had dropped down to just 7 members in the wild, with continuous effort and support from the donors the population now stands at 11. WTI with joint efforts from the Chhattisgarh Forest Department and Assam Forest Department will soon be translocating buffaloes from Manas National Park to Chhattisgarh inorder to recover the Wild Buffalo population further.
Wild Buffalo is the state animal of Chhattisgarh. With continuous effort to recover dwindling population of Wild Buffalo , the state now takes ownus and pride in their state animal. Massive Urban and Rural campaigns are being conducted to spread awareness about the status of the species.
The soon to be executed translocation of the Wild Buffaloes from Assam to Chhattisgarh will go down in history as first ever translocation of Wild Buffalo from one state to another in India.
