Free Engineering and Medical Test Preparation for Government School Students in Delhi

Organization : Avanti Fellows

Location : Delhi

Project Description

Avanti has an MoU with the Directorate of Education New Delhi, to act as the nodal agency to run a state-wide free test preparation program for all students enrolled in Class 11 and 12. Avanti has established a Program Management Unit (PMU) in the Chief Minister’s Office that coordinates student outreach, program delivery and impact evaluation.

The program is an at-home online learning program and specifically targets students who cannot travel to coaching centres or afford local coaching classes (especially girls). Students will receive 3-18 hours of online live classes every week and be supported by academic mentors throughout the year. The state government has also made provisions to provide girl students with free tablets to ensure that all deserving students can participate.

We are seeking support to fund free Engineering and Medical test preparation for select government school students across Delhi from January 2023 to July 2025. Students will receive 2+ years of rigorous test preparation including 3-18 hours a week of classes (delivered in direct-to-student online live classes) and weekly assessments. Overall, the program will reach out to 8,000 students over 3 years.

Special Features of Project

  • Unique course design: Our courses require students to attend 3-6 hours of online classes per subject per week. These classes are delivered online by master teachers.  Students receive digital homework that is tailored to their learning level and focuses on helping them practice questions similar to national and state-level entrance exams. Students have access to doubt-solving by teaching assistants.
  • Learning level focussed batches: Students are divided into various batches based on their preferences, time commitment and performance on weekly tests during the four weeks of initial classes.
  • Outcomes expected: From the 100 students graduating in 2023, we expect 30% of the students to qualify for high employability STEM courses. We expect 10% of our graduating students to place into top-tier STEM professional courses and ~5% to place into premier colleges like the IITs, NITs and Govt. Medical Colleges.
  • Personalised Track and Exam counselling: Students requiring counselling are provided personalised telephonic counselling for track selection A dedicated team of counsellors reaches out to students based on a well-defined calling logic to counsel them for maintaining regular attendance. School visits are conducted on a need basis to counsel students.
  • Tech-enabled program execution:
    •  Whatsapp group communication: Students are added into batch-wise WhatsApp groups which serve as primary modes of communication. Whatsapp groups are used for information sharing and generating excitement among students
    • Online classes: Classes are run on Zoom platform moderated by the in-house tech and program team.Students are divided into batches and the class zoom link is allotted to each batch
    • Data tracking: Student attendance and attempt rate is captured using Avanti’s in-house product called Portal which captures attendance based on various user identifiers like Student ID for Delhi students. This data is then monitored using our internal Datastudio dashboards
    • Dedicated program website: A dedicated program website for program registration and with program details is managed by the in-house Tech team. Link to the program website: https://freecoachingdelhi.avantifellows.org/
