Organization : Society For Educational Welfare And Economic Development (SEED)

Location : Haryana

Project Description

In 2018-2019, SEED conducted a baseline survey in Janauli village in Haryana to understand the social & economic profile of Janauli Village. It was assessed that women in the village needed to be empowered economically and socially, as women were:

  • Financially dependent on male members of the family
  • Low participation in family matters
  • No decision-making powers
  • Extremely hesitant to articulate and put forward their views
  • Discouraged from taking up economic activities

SEED has undertaken intensive mobilization drives to generate awareness about the importance of financial independence of women and their active participation in domestic and community matters. We also undertake counseling activities to motivate and encourage women to join skill-training programs. Efforts are also made to engage with male members to convince them to encourage women in their house to become a part of the project. A positive change has been noticed in the community where male members no longer discourage/restrict women from participating in the project activities.SEED is working to promote and ensure gender equality, and empowering women in Janauli through skill development so that they can access decent work and productive employment opportunities, which not only contributes to inclusive and sustainable economic growth, but also leads to poverty reduction. The initiatives undertaken in partnership with MSC in the last 3 years have had significant impact in gender mainstreaming, economic and subsequent social empowerment of Women in Janauli.
