The project areas – VP Singh Camp and Nardaan Basti are slums consist of poorly built tenements, mostly of temporary nature, crowded together usually with inadequate sanitary and drinking water facilities in unhygienic conditions. The inhabitants of these slums majorly belong to underprivileged communities largely migrated from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan. The population in VP Singh camp is more of settled nature but the population in Nardaan Basti migrates more often in search of livelihoods.
CRY through its partner NGO Matri Sudha works for delivering proper health, nutrition and hygiene facilities for women and children in these slums to ensure their respective rights are protected. Simultaneously, we work with the whole community to raise demands for better services and to enable a community oriented holistic approach to ensure long-term sustainability of services. We also facilitate various departments to identify the gaps in the community and mitigate those. Due to partner’s efforts, the number of pregnant women accessing the Antenatal Care (ANC) services and children accessing anganwadi and health facilities have significantly increased over the years. There has been a good improvement in percentage of institutional deliveries, immunization among children and pregnant women, malnutrition status of children, sanitation and hygiene facilities in the community, etc.
