AIM: Development of an online data-visualization platform for monitoring Bengaluru’s lakes followed by displaying it on a Citizen’s Dashboard for citizen science engagement and lake management. The platform is accessible through a browser as well as a smartphone app.

OUTCOMES: An IoT sensor linked to a dashboard was installed in four lakes to better inform the citizens about the health of their lake

Although due to multiple challenges observed in the course of the work – it did not reach the desired impact. 

However, the work empowered citizens about the lake through an App – ‘Mira’ and through a series of courses on lake rejuvenation and management. Empowered 400 citizens on water quality assessment, bathymetry, Google Earth and GIS software to map their lake.

• The project led to development and installment of citizen’s dashboard to provide information to the lake community and stakeholders for the lake’s management and governance.
• The project also conducted training programmes to inform and educate the community on lake monitoring methods.
• A MIRA App was developed to help facilitate greater engagement of the lake community with their lake.
• The project empowered  400 citizens to manage their lakes.
