Project Description

Novel Technique of Stem Cell Harvesting for Treatment in Various Diseases. Stem cell research offers unprecedented opportunities for developing new medical therapies for debilitating diseases and a new way to explore fundamental questions of biology. Stem cells are unspecialized cells that can self-renew indefinitely and also differentiate into more mature cells with specialized functions.

Stem Cell therapy involves the direct administration of cells into the body for healing purposes. The units of therapy in this approach are single cells. For regenerative medicine, the ultimate objective of cell therapy is to establish a long-term graft with the capacity to perform organ functions. A practical example is bone marrow transplantation, in which HSC are the units of therapy, engraft in the bone marrow, and repopulate the entire blood lineage. Stem cell therapy, also known as regenerative medicine, promotes the repair response of diseased, dysfunctional, or injured tissue using stem cells or their derivatives. It is the next chapter in organ transplantation and uses cells instead of donor organs, which are limited in supply. Researchers grow stem cells in a culture medium in a lab. These stem cells are manipulated to transform into specialized types of cells, such as heart muscle cells, blood cells, or nerve cells. These specialized cells can then be implanted into a person. For example, if a person has heart disease, the cells can be injected into the heart muscle. The healthy transplanted heart muscle cells could then contribute to repairing defective heart muscle.

Goal: A primary goal of stem cell research is identifying how undifferentiated stem cells become differentiated. Some of the most serious medical conditions, such as cancer and birth defects, are due to abnormal cell division and differentiation.

Objective: The final objective of stem cell research is to "cure" diseases. Theoretically, stem cell therapy is one of the ideal means to cure almost all human diseases known, as it would allow for replacing defective or dead cells with normal cells derived from normal or genetically modified stem cells. Promotes the repair response of diseased, dysfunctional, or injured tissue using stem cells or their derivatives.

Benefits of Stem Cell Research

  • They can develop into any cell type in the body.
  • They can form unlimited quantities of any cell type in the body.
  • They will help us understand inherited diseases by allowing us to study human cells bearing the exact genetic defects that cause disease in patients.

Special Features of Project

  • A technique that will change the way we harvest stem cells making it possible for every level of hospital to harvest these cells without any ethical issues
  • This will increase the use and make it possible to treat many diseases with this novel technique
  • The bone regeneration process may improve effectively and rapidly when stem cells are used.
  • Stem cells are able to secrete bioactive molecules and regulate the behavior of other cells in different host tissues.
  • Mesenchymal stem cells are used for cell-based therapy due to self-renewal, multipotent, and adaptability properties.
  • MSCs regenerate damaged tissue, autocrine/paracrine function and can deliver therapeutic molecules/genes in fracture treatment.
  • The new technique of stem cell harvesting will make it easier for doctors to harvest these cells for bone healing. The regeneration shows promising results but requires more studies to prove its effectiveness.
