Project “SWAVALAMBAN” for empowerment of fishermen community from Samata Nagar, Village Tardobachi Wadi of Shirur block of Pune District is operational since April 2017 The initial activities included Needs Assessment Study with active community participation using various tools of village profiling like baseline survey Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), Focus Group Discussions (FGD’s) and Key informant Interviews helped in understanding issues, challenges and nature of interventions required.

• Promotion Formation Nurturing and strengthening of Self Help Grousp and their linkages with the Banks
• General and Specific health camps for women / men and children; Health / Hygiene / WASH Sessions with the children
• Livelihood scoping and skill trainings for women – Skill trainings in goatry, poultry, kitchen gardening and broom making
• Strengthening of Youth Groups
• Social Entitlements and Linkages with various Govt Schemes
• Infrastructure Development –Aaganwadi ,community /public and individual toilets

• The community whole hearted participation and involvement in programme intervention was very notable
• The activities like strengthening of Self Help Groups ; addressing specific women health issues like menstrual health management proved to be very effective
• The women participation in the Village Gramsabha’s was very vibrant
• The project activities demonstrated financial literacy and financial inclusion through functioning of 6 self help groups
• The barriers like myths and misconceptions, superstitions and beliefs ( as it is a tribal community) never interrupted any project interventions
