Many regions of India still bear the brunt of poverty, especially in rural areas. IIT Technology IHub Foundation (IPTIF) strives to change this situation by improving the skills of rural women. IPTIF has devised an initiative of setting up centres that focus on helping rural women acquire technical skills and training them to secure jobs. Parts of the UN's fifth Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) about gender equality and women empowerment form the bedrock of our centres.
Why this centre? Our Technology, Research, and Entrepreneurship Development (i-TREND) centres will change the landscape of rural India and empower women of the country through techno-entrepreneurial education close to their homes. Thereby, technologically enabling people irrespective of their location, and subsequently transforming the ecosystem of rural India.
Why should rural areas have i-TREND centres?
Despite contributing immensely to the economy, people from rural India face greater obstacles for sustainable development and a decent quality of life compared to their urban counterparts. Rural women and girls, in particular, lack equal access to productive resources and assets such as education as well as essential technical skills. Becoming part of the technological world is crucial to empowering women to break and reach beyond gender stereotypes. Our i-TREND centres allows everyone, including the women in rural areas, across India to access technical education and training eminently as opinionated by the UN's fifth SDG.
