Since 1981 RBKS, a voluntary organization, works focusing on education as a tool for fighting poverty eradication in tribal dominated southern Rajasthan. Later in the year 1991 it enlarged its vision “Dignified and Sustainable livelihood for Poor families.” RBKS also started working on resource building at community and family level. Presently we are working in 641 villages of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
The southern part of Rajasthan, is a hilly, undulating, semi-arid, remote tribal region. Jhadol block of Udaipur district is known for underdeveloped, remote and backwardness. Jhadol Block is completely rural and falls in the Tribal Sub Plan Area of Government of India, 90% inhabitants are tribal– mainly Bhils and Garasias. Agriculture provides the primary source of livelihood, though just a small section of the total land is devoted to it, due to low soil moisture from the recurring drought and limited irrigation capacities. Tribals at Adkaliya cluster of Jhadol area are living below poverty line, mostly illiterate, living in remote under developed areas, with small land holdings. They are dependent on agriculture, animal husbandry and labour work as course of livelihood. They resort to taking rain- fed crop which is unpredictable. Family members migrate to Udaipur city and Gujarat to do labour work. Children also support family by doing labour work at construction site and in BT cotton field.
