Karamadai block of Coimbatore district has the highest number of tribal communities with more than 7800 individuals as per Census 2011. The eastern slopes of Western Ghats mountain ranges cover a part of Coimbatore district. Anaikatty is one of the villages situated along the forest slopes. There are many tribal revenue villages and tribal settlements that are in close vicinity of Anaikatty and are connected to it. in these villages primitive tribal people living in small groups. they belong to the "Irular" tribal community which is listed under "Scheduled Tribe" (ST) by the government of India.
The community kitchens were started in 11 tribal hamlets of Tholampalayam panchayat during COVID crisis as the people were unable to go for provisions and labour. On an average 1200 people in the 11 tribal hamlets adjoining the Kerala state border got one-time food with the support of NTT Data. The community kitchens were started on 11th April 2020 till 4th June 2020.
