This project aims to bring to schools all out-of-school children in the relevant age group and provide them with the appropriate support for ensuring their retention along with ensuring enhanced academic competency and life skill among children in government primary schools of Rajnagar block in Birbhum district in West Bengal. Birbhum is one of the tribal based districts, which has been declared as the tribal district of the State and Rajnagar block is one of the most backward blocks in terms of economic growth and the literacy rate of the block is 59.44%. Literacy rate among the tribal population is less than the block overall rate i.e. 31.17% with only 17% among women. Being one of the poor regions of West Bengal child marriage and human trafficking is rampant in this district.
The project has scope of enhancing academic competency of children studying in Govt. Primary Schools through basic foundation course and remedial education support; empowering children with life skills to deal with day to day life situations in a positive manner; building capacity of govt. school teachers on Joyful Teaching Methodology and age appropriate Life Skills Education, strengthening the school management system and sensitization of the community and government service providers towards creating a safe environment in the community for ensuring children’s right to education and overall development and sensitizing them on issues related to child rights, importance of education in holistic development of a child and access and availability of government schemes and services for children.
