Project Description

North and South 24 Parganas are identified as districts prone to trafficking. South 24 Parganas is the largest supplier of minor girls for commercial sexual exploitation in addition to being a source area of trafficking as well. The primary Goal of the project is creating an enabling environment to prevent trafficking amongst the young girls through sensitization, awareness creation and capacity building of the youth and the community people about the issue of human trafficking and how they themselves can mitigate the problem. The project will has also created action group of children and youths to prevent trafficking by addressing the vulnerability factors. The project in collaboration with the district administration works on the functioning of the VLCPC and BLCPC so that they can function as an active body to prevent trafficking by addressing the vulnerability factors. The project ensures linkages with government stakeholders and do advocacy with them for maximum availability, access, utilisation to the government schemes and also to modify schemes to ensure access for vulnerable families.

Special Features of Project

CINI is the State Technical partner of WCD department and District Level Core Committee (DLCC) member of each district under this program
Empowering children and youth through collectivization and capacity building for taking actions towards mitigating the vulnerability factors. Like – school dropout, lack of awareness about factors behind trafficking, child marriage, elopement, prevalent social & gender norms etc.
Strengthening systems (the Block level child protection committees and the village level child protection committees) through increased involvement of the VLCPCs and BLCPC including other community members like – parents, youth club members, religious leaders, legal service providers etc. in ensuring the mitigation of vulnerability factors affecting the vulnerable girls and families.
Linkages of vulnerable girls and vulnerable families with government schemes and ensure they are able to access and utilize required entitlements through demand generation at community level
Evidence building for advocacy and policy influencing
A comprehensive capacity building strategy to focus on learning and hands on experience for behavioral change as well as empowerment of the adolescents with Adolescents’ Reproductive and Sexual Health Rights as the key issue for capacity building and awareness generation
Scope of convergence among different Government’s line Department as well as with State  and local level NGOs as a key strategy for nutrition and non-nutritional components
