Amorepacific India’s CSR Program Launches 1,800-Tree Plantation for a Greener Future

Across many regions in India, rapid urbanisation, industrial activity, and changing land use patterns have led to a steady decline in green cover. This loss has weakened local ecosystems, reduced biodiversity, and increased environmental stress on communities that depend on natural resources for their well-being.

Limited awareness about sustainable plantation practices and a lack of long-term maintenance often result in tree plantation efforts that fail to create lasting ecological value.

Recognising these challenges, Innisfree Cosmetics India Pvt. Ltd., an Indian subsidiary of Amorepacific Corporation, partnered with environmental NGO Sankalptaru Foundation to implement a large-scale, well-structured plantation initiative.

The creation of the Amorepacific Forest in Khijuri, Bawal, Haryana represents a thoughtful response to the growing need for sustainable environmental restoration that combines scientific planning, community engagement, and corporate responsibility.

Building a Sustainable Green Ecosystem

The Amorepacific Forest initiative has been designed with a clear focus on ecological sustainability rather than short-term outcomes. Under the program, 1,800 trees are being planted, carefully selected from native, medicinal, fruit-bearing, flowering, and shade-giving species.

This diverse mix plays a crucial role in strengthening the local ecosystem, as native species are better adapted to regional soil and climate conditions and require fewer external inputs to thrive. Medicinal and fruit-bearing trees add functional value by supporting local biodiversity and offering long-term benefits to the surrounding community.

Scientific plantation practices form the backbone of the initiative. Each sapling planted under the program is geo-tagged and digitally recorded, ensuring complete transparency and traceability. This data-driven approach allows for accurate tracking of survival rates, growth patterns, and overall forest health over time.

Digital monitoring also helps identify areas that may require additional care or intervention, ensuring that the plantation evolves into a self-sustaining green space rather than remaining a one-time activity.

By focusing on long-term ecological outcomes, the initiative contributes to improved soil quality, better water retention, and enhanced microclimatic conditions in the region. Over time, the forest is expected to support a range of bird species, insects, and other wildlife, creating a balanced ecosystem that strengthens environmental resilience.

Community Engagement and Local Capacity Building

A defining feature of the Amorepacific Forest initiative is its emphasis on community involvement. Environmental conservation efforts often face challenges when local communities are not actively engaged or empowered to take ownership. To address this, Sankalptaru Foundation plays a key role in involving residents from the surrounding areas and equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to care for the forest.

Training programs are conducted to educate community members on plantation techniques, watering schedules, soil management, and protection measures. This hands-on knowledge ensures that the forest continues to receive consistent care long after the initial plantation phase is complete.

By involving the community directly, the initiative fosters a sense of responsibility and pride, transforming the forest into a shared asset rather than an external intervention.

Community engagement also helps create awareness about the broader importance of environmental conservation. As residents witness the tangible benefits of increased green cover, such as improved air quality and a healthier local environment, the initiative encourages more sustainable practices at the grassroots level. This model of collaboration ensures that environmental impact is both inclusive and enduring.

Employee Participation and Collaborative Action

The initiative goes beyond traditional corporate social responsibility models by encouraging active participation from Amorepacific employees. Employees join hands with volunteers from Sankalptaru Foundation to plant saplings on the ground, creating a direct connection between corporate teams and environmental action. This collaborative approach reinforces the idea that sustainability is not limited to policies or funding, but also requires personal involvement and shared effort.

Employee participation strengthens internal awareness around environmental stewardship and sustainability values. It provides an opportunity for individuals to contribute meaningfully to a cause that aligns with the company’s broader vision of responsible growth.

At the same time, the presence of employees alongside local communities and NGO volunteers builds trust and reinforces partnerships that are essential for long-term impact.

By integrating employees into the initiative, the program demonstrates how corporate entities can play an active role in addressing environmental challenges while fostering a culture of responsibility and purpose within their organisations.

Strengthening Biodiversity and Ecological Balance

The selection of tree species under the Amorepacific Forest initiative reflects a deliberate focus on biodiversity. Native trees support local ecosystems more effectively by providing food and shelter for birds, insects, and small animals that are already part of the region’s natural landscape. Flowering plants attract pollinators, while fruit-bearing trees support wildlife and offer potential benefits to nearby communities over time.

Medicinal plants add another layer of ecological and social value by preserving species that have traditional and therapeutic significance. Shade-giving trees contribute to temperature regulation and create cooler microclimates, which can be especially valuable in regions experiencing rising temperatures due to climate change.

Together, these elements help restore ecological balance and create a resilient forest ecosystem capable of adapting to environmental changes. The initiative also contributes to carbon sequestration, playing a role in mitigating the effects of climate change at a local level.

Impact Created

The Amorepacific Forest stands as a meaningful outcome of a well-planned and responsibly executed environmental initiative. The plantation of 1,800 diverse tree species contributes to increased green cover and enhanced biodiversity in Khijuri, Bawal. Scientific monitoring ensures higher survival rates and long-term sustainability, setting the project apart from conventional plantation drives.

The initiative has also created social impact by engaging and empowering the local community. Through training and ongoing involvement, residents become active stewards of the forest, ensuring its protection and maintenance over the years. Employee participation further strengthens the collective impact by bridging corporate responsibility with on-ground action.

In the long term, the forest is expected to improve air quality, support local wildlife, enhance soil health, and contribute to climate resilience. By integrating technology, community engagement, and sustainable practices, the initiative delivers measurable environmental and social value.

Way Forward

The Amorepacific Forest initiative reflects a long-term commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible growth. Moving forward, continuous monitoring and maintenance will remain critical to ensuring the forest’s health and longevity. The geo-tagging and digital tracking framework provides a strong foundation for evaluating progress and making data-driven improvements over time.

There is also potential to replicate this model in other regions, expanding its impact and contributing to larger conservation goals. By combining scientific planning, community ownership, and corporate participation, the initiative offers a scalable approach to sustainable afforestation.

Through projects like the Amorepacific Forest, Innisfree continues to align its CSR efforts with meaningful environmental outcomes. The initiative reinforces the belief that sustainable development is achieved through consistent action, collaboration, and a long-term vision for ecological balance and community well-being.
