The Company has initiated various CSR Projects in the Education area in the Financial Year 2019-20. During the academic year 40 Tribal girl students under the ‘NMDC Balika Siksha Yojana’, were given sponsorship for Nursing Courses at Apollo School & College of Nursing, Hyderabad, which is a unique initiative in State of Chhattisgarh to benefit Tribal girls of Bastar Division. The Year also saw continued operation of NMDC Shiksha Shayog Yojana- A scheme providing Scholarships to upto 18,000 SC/ST students for encouraging them to pursue education beyond 8th class up to Graduation at Bastar Region in Chhattisgarh. Support to Mid-Day Meal Scheme in the year 2019-20 was given by providing nutritious & wholesome meals in Govt. Schools around Donimalai mines, Karnataka, covering 8000 students. A unique initiative of operating 500 single teacher Schools in remote tribal villages around Bailadila Projects in order to promote the cause of education amongst tribal children. Around 300 schools have been made operational so far. In the Bastar District of Chhattisgarh Operations of Residential School for tribals and Industrial Training Institute (ITI) was carried out, whereas in the Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh setting up of Education Hub at Jawanga Geedam and Operation of Polytechnic college was carried out. A support to 'Saksham'- Residential School for children with special needs an operation of Astha Gurukal - Residential school for SC, ST, Orphans etc. was carried out. Construction activity of Additional room was executed in 13 primary school and 13 closed schools in Remote Area of Sukma districts. Internal electrification works in 10 Ashrams/Hotels, Construction of new Toilets in 10 Ashrams/Hostels, Construction of transit hostel and Lighting facility through solar high mast in 15 residential schools was carried out in Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh. NMDC was established on 15th November 1958 as a Public Sector Undertaking to explore, develop and exploit mineral resources other than fuel oil and atomic minerals. It is engaged in mining of Iron ore, Magnesite and Diamonds. Education, being the main focus of Bharti Infratel's social development interventions, is being supported through Bharti Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Bharti Group. Through the Satya Bharti School Program, as of the Financial Year 2019-20 more than 39,489 students are provided free quality education through 192 schools across 6 states of India (Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh). This program has also created employment opportunity for more than 1,396 teachers from the surrounding communities. The education and other facilities like mid-day meals, books, uniforms, etc. are provided free. Community interactions are maintained on regular basis and several communities based initiatives are organized to influence the behaviors of the rural community towards education and other social concerns specific to their region. This program also focuses on bringing about sustainable changes through the use of technology by these underprivileged children. In Satya Bharti Schools, 50% of their students are girls and 73% of their teachers are females. Similarly, the Bharti Infratel Scholarship Program provided financial support for higher education to 196 underprivileged students with disabilities from the Northeastern region of the country and 40% of the scholarship beneficiaries are girls with disabilities

The Company provided educational support (material & academic) to underprivileged girls in India through an after school support program. Every girl was provided with 360-degree support which includes daily academic support and an annual school supplies kit. Girls in secondary school were also given access to digital tablets, pre-loaded with audio-visual educational content, and additional material support including feminine hygiene material so that they can attend school with dignity. Through regular engagements with the families of the girls and sensitisation of community stakeholders, the project aims to create conducive girl friendly eco-systems. In FY20, the project supported the education of 1,74,681 girls. Of these 14,462 girls were supported by the Company, while the Mahindra Group as a whole supported 67,337 girls. The balance girls are supported by individuals and other corporates.

4. Project Agastya

Project Agastya provided hands on science learning to around 28,000 school students through 10 mobile science labs and 1 science center covering 120 schools. 5. Education with special focus on the Girl Child

The Company helps in supporting rural girls from underprivileged backgrounds to complete their school education through remedial education and holistic engagement. This year the company provided remedial education for the girl child in two most backward regions of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Their total reach was 15,910 girls during the year. The Company has initiated the engagement at Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu and will be moving out after a successful tenure at Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu in the current year. Under their Kanya Sampurna programme, they created about 50 model anganwadis in Kattumannar Koil and Yadgir to be showcased to the government. As part of their support to education, they also invest in building the capacity of teachers. They completed a teacher training programme in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, covering 296 teachers from government schools. Scholarships were given to 129 students to enable them to pursue higher education.

8. The School Project

Through a public-private partnership model, Thermax Foundation (TF) funds three Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) schools run by its NGO partner, Akanksha Foundation – K.C. Thackeray Vidya Niketan English Medium School (KCTVN), Late Anantrao Pawar English Medium School, and Savitri Bai Phule English Medium School fully, along with the funding of Matoshri English Medium School, partially. During the academic year 2019-20, Akanksha run schools undertook various pedagogical activities to improve the quality of education imparted. These include adopting the technology wave by introducing tablets and interactive projector based learning; initiatives such as ‘Bridge the Gap’ to collate and analyse all the available student assessment data to identify patterns in their learning gaps and design data driven instructions; collaborative classrooms for interaction of students beyond their own groups and mentor-mentee programmes to improve bonding with teachers. Besides, many students from these schools participated and won accolades in various interschool and other external competitions. These schools also focused on community development by engaging with the parents through innovative interventions such as ‘Chai Katta’ to sensitize them on the importance of education and equip them to support their children. Oil India’s ‘OIL India Super 30’ which started in July 2010, is a completely free residential coaching for the meritorious students from the backward sections of the society hailing from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh & Rajasthan. The project aims at providing a conducive environment to students to keep them focused, result-oriented and help them prepare for JEE Mains/Advance, other Engineering and Medical entrance examinations. Along with residential coaching the students are provided free accommodation and food for eleven months. Out of the total 1179 students enrolled till date, 897 got admission in various engineering colleges and 237 got admission in various IITs.
