Aiming to empower underserved youth in Uttar Pradesh, Ambuja Foundation and Kanohar Electricals Limited have partnered to establish a new Skill & Entrepreneurship Development Institute in Modinagar, Uttar Pradesh. The three-year programme aims to train more than 1,000 rural youth with employment-oriented skills, preparing them for sustainable livelihoods.
Located in Ghaziabad, Modinagar is strategically positioned near the rapidly expanding economic hub of Delhi NCR region. However, despite this geographical advantage and proximity to a strong economic ecosystem, many villages around Saunda in Modinagar continue to face unemployment, underemployment, and limited access to skill-based livelihood opportunities.
A field assessment conducted by Ambuja Foundation across Saunda and surrounding villages revealed that while access to basic education is relatively strong, with many young men and women completing secondary school and even graduation, there remains a significant gap in industry-relevant technical skills, practical training exposure, and awareness of career pathways. As a result, a large number of educated rural youth remain unemployed or engaged in informal and low-paying work.
Village Saunda has been selected for this initiative due to its strong alignment with the programme’s objectives, as well as its significance as the native place of the founder, Shri Kanohar Lal Singhal, reflecting a commitment to contribute to the development of communities connected to the Company’s roots. The initiative will offer structured learning modules in courses such as Phlebotomy, General Duty Assistant, OT Assistance, Customer Care and Microfinance. In addition to technical training, participants will receive soft skills and IT training, along with On-the-Job Training to strengthen practical workplace experience.
Participants will also be trained in work readiness and financial literacy to help prepare them for professional environments. The programme also places strong emphasis on occupational health and safety, ensuring that trainees understand workplace standards and practices, thereby improving their employability and long-term career prospects.
Speaking about the initiative, Pearl Tiwari, CEO, Ambuja Foundation said, “With the growing demand for a skilled workforce across sectors, it is becoming increasingly important to bridge the skills gap and equip youth with industry-relevant capabilities. Through this strategic partnership with Kanohar Electricals Limited, we aim empowering youth with the skills, confidence and opportunities needed to build sustainable careers and improve their socio-economic well-being.
Shri Dinesh Singhal, Chairman and Managing Director of Kanohar Electricals Limited added:
"At Kanohar Electricals Limited, we believe that investing in skills development is essential for building inclusive economic growth. Through this collaboration with Ambuja Foundation, we hope to create meaningful opportunities for young people in rural Uttar Pradesh, enabling them to gain industry-relevant skills and access better livelihood prospects."
Over the next three years, the institute is expected to play a critical role in connecting rural youth with emerging employment opportunities across the NCR region, while strengthening local capacities for skill development. By equipping young men and women with practical training, career guidance, and access to job placements, the initiative aims to contribute to reduced unemployment, improved household incomes, and greater economic mobility for families across the region.
