Namma Swachha Adakamaranahalli Grama Panchayat Initiative Inaugurated to Strengthen Waste Management

Namma Swachha Adakamaranahalli Grama Panchayat is an initiative by Himalaya Wellness in collaboration with the Panchayat officials and the NGO Let’s Be The Change. The project aims to transform Adakamaranahalli Grama Panchayat comprising Adakamaranahalli, Makali, and Harokyathanahalli villages into a clean, healthy, and a zero-dump community. This will be achieved by building a sustainable and circular waste management system through community participation, infrastructure development, and strong governance support.

The project’s inaugural event was held at the Himalaya Wellness campus in Makali on March 14, 2026, in the presence of President and Panchayat leaders, including E. Krishnappa, former MLC, along with the employees and leadership team of Himalaya Wellness Company. The event witnessed a plog run around Makali village, in which community residents and Himalaya employees participated in collecting and segregating dry waste. Door-to-door awareness on waste segregation was also initiated during the event.

Commenting on the initiative, KG Umesh, Director-Human Resources, Himalaya Wellness Company, shares, “At Himalaya Wellness Company, we believe that the health of our communities is linked to the well-being of the environment. With the Namma Swachha Adakamaranahalli initiative, we aim to promote sustainable practices at the grassroots level. By working with local leadership and community partners, the initiative encourages people to practice responsible waste management and waste segregation practices. We can thereby collectively work towards creating a positive change in our villages to make them a healthier place to live.”

The project, spread over a period of six months, will cover over 3,000 households and extend to commercial establishments in the surrounding communities. It will focus on the distribution of dustbin kits, building awareness, and enabling sustainable waste management practices across three villages. A kiosk will be established at a central location in the Panchayat to facilitate collection of segregated waste at source. Himalaya will engage with various stakeholders to develop Adakamaranahalli into a Model Panchayat that demonstrates effective waste management and circular economy practices.

Anirudh S Dutt, Founder and CEO, Let’s Be The Change, says, “In many communities, waste management breaks down simply because there is no consistent system for collection and segregation at the local level. What makes initiatives like this meaningful is the opportunity to work closely with residents and local leaders to build simple, workable solutions that fit the realities of village life. With the support of Himalaya Wellness Company and the Panchayat, we aim to demonstrate that when communities are involved from the start, even small behavioral shifts can lead to cleaner streets, healthier surroundings, and a more sustainable way of managing waste.”
