The dropout rates in government schools for innumerable reasons have been one of primary concerns of India in achieving its literacy targets. Along with endemic poverty and social Inequality, education still remains inaccessible for millions of children in India.

Over the past decade, KPIT’s CSR team, along with voluntary support from employees has successfully been able to conduct multiple School Kit Drives, in association with renowned voluntary organizations like ‘Seva Sahyog’ and ‘Youth for Seva.’

KPIT, with the support of its partner NGOs – Seva Sahyog, Pune and Youth for Seva, Bengaluru, has been encouraging student retention at schools through ‘School Kit Drive’ for the past eight years. The year 2016 saw 787 employees contribute Rs. 7 lakhs, for 2500 beneficiaries across 96 schools. The engagement also included volunteers packing the school kit, with books and stationeries together into school bags.

KPIT have been working with Seva Sahayog, an umbrella organization of various NGOs, for the last five years. Seva Sahyog conducted a survey to identify the reasons behind students dropping out of the schools. One of the key reasons that came to light was the issue of affordability. The families were not able to afford the basic things needed for their children’s education, such as books, school bags etc. In collaboration with Seva Sahyog, KPIT spearheaded School Kit donation drive wherein the employees contributed funds and manpower to support education of over 40,000 underprivileged children.
