About the organization

Saahas a ‘Not for Profit’ was registered in 2001 under the Society’s Act.  Saahas is primarily focusing on programs based on the concepts of ‘Source Segregation and ‘Decentralized Waste Management’ within the framework of the Solid Waste Management Rules 2016. Saahas works with government institutions, companies, households and schools to bring attention to best practices in the management of solid waste and also establishes collection and processing infrastructure. The programs also focus on better livelihood opportunities for the informal sector.
Saahas has a pan India presence working in urban, rural and peri-urban areas. We work closely with government, civil societies and private sectors in the waste management sector. Our vision and mission are as:

India to become a leading Circular Economy where Nothing is Waste.
Mission
Contribute significantly in aligning the Waste Management approach and implementation in the country towards sustainable circular economy principals by piloting and showcasing innovative waste management programs through close collaboration with citizen, administrators, businesses and law makers.

Our work is focused on  5 verticals:

Our programs have:
Clear measurable impacts- All our programs devise measurable targets for the waste that is processed and diverted from landfill; quantity of people reached out in awareness programs and the employment our programs generate at the bottom of pyramid.
High Visibility and People Connect- The essence of all the programs is to build very high community connect through working closely with the local government, schools, residential communities etc.
Self-Sustaining & Low Overheads- One of the important objectives of our programs is to make them self-sustainable by way of its institutionalization and financial viability. 85-90% of the cost is towards people and assets connected directly with the program.
Our consistent efforts have resulted in the following:
41 Tons of dry waste handled every month
20 Tons of wet waste composted every month
5 Tons e-waste collected every month
More than 30000 households serviced.
Sensitized over 6 Lakh people in last one year through our programs
Reduced GHG emissions and air pollution due to proper end destination for more than 60 Tons of municipal solid waste per month.
